Tom DeWeerd, a member of Midlothian Meeting, was featured in a full length article appearing in the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Saturday, March 2, 2002.

The article, titled "Quaker Grows in Faith Through Silence", examined Tom's road to Quakerism, starting with his early experiences in Michigan, where he grew up. Tom was an alter boy at the local Catholic church, and enrolled in seminary for a year after graduating from high school.

Tom's spiritual quest led him to Quakerism. A key facet of his faith was the belief that individuals didn't need a priest to come between them and God, and that everyone could develop a personal relationship with God.
